Who are we
Founded on October 20, 2005 in Désarmes, in the commune of Verrettes, department of Artibonite in Haiti, GASA is the result of several years of reflection and initiatives aimed at freedom and democracy in Haiti. Noting that, since 1980, successive governments have failed to lead the Haitian people towards collective well-being, GASA is committed to providing concrete solutions for a sustainable development mechanism in Haiti.
The group's action is based on a trilogy of priorities: education, sustainable development and democracy. GASA aspires to profound change in communities, with an emphasis on vocational training, the promotion of agricultural innovation and the right to food.
Our goals
Working with our partners to address the root causes of inequality and improve the socio-economic conditions of marginalized groups.
In the short term
-
Conduct an education campaign focusing on:
-
Civic Engagements in Decline: Popularizing philosophical, sociological, ecological and historical education among adolescents and women. The goal is to encourage their involvement and participation in public activities, and to enable active collaboration with the aging generation to ensure Haiti's social and ecological transition, as well as the Ethical Revolution.
-
Youth and Women Empowerment: Create technical and technological learning opportunities for youth and women to strengthen their financial sustainability. This will be achieved through the acquisition of entrepreneurial skills, the management of cooperatives and mutual societies, the creation of micro-enterprises, as well as the development of value chains.
-
-
Revitalize agriculture to:
-
Defend food rights and promote food sovereignty.
-
Facilitate job creation, reduce rural-urban migration, and reduce community violence.
-
In the long term:
GASA aims to eradicate poverty and achieve critical mass to consolidate unity in diversity, promoting peace and solidarity.
Our Values
We adhere to the core principles of a poverty eradication approach, with a focus on the most marginalized. According to the United Nations Sustainable Development Group, “the poverty eradication approach seeks to analyze the inequalities at the heart of development challenges, addressing discriminatory practices and unfair distributions of power that hinder progress, often leaving some groups behind.”
Our approach, centred on personal and community development, aims to empower individuals to know and claim their rights. We also seek to strengthen the capacity and accountability of the people and institutions responsible for respecting, protecting and implementing these rights.
